LA-Z-BOY Incorporated, a leading manufacturer of recliners, sofas, and other furniture products, retained the services of cmQue, inc. to prepare and conduct an auction for truckload transportation services.

Role of Firm
As the prime consultant for the project, cmQue implemented an optimization-based auction methodology that selected, among competing carrier offerings, the best combination of carrier assignments that satisfied service requirements and minimized transportation costs for LA-Z-BOY. cmQue, inc. developed a database of historical shipping information, forecasts of future shipments and costs, the auction information package distributed to participating carriers, a web site for administering the auction and a bid optimization model. As a result of the process cmQue implemented, LA-Z-BOY was able to negotiate more competitive rates from its carriers, rationalize the carrier base, and significantly reduce freight transportation costs.
