Project Sponsor: United States Postal Service
Project Description
Labor is one of the largest cost items in the United States Postal Service (USPS) budget. The USPS was exploring how mathematical modeling can be used to determine the most efficient mix of staff schedules (i.e., start time, shift length, days off combination) and the number of people from different labor categories assigned to each schedule that will meet the workload requirements for a USPS facility. A consulting team from Accenture, cmQue, inc., and i2 Technologies developed a labor-scheduling tool that the USPS can use to plan its manpower requirements.
Role of Firm
cmQue's responsibilities included developing the conceptual model for labor planning, formulating a labor scheduling model, and testing a labor scheduling tool.
